The Procedure

The surgeon makes incisions following the natural contour below the breast and around the areola. Next, the surgeon removes excess skin from the lower part of the breast. The nipple, areola and underlying breast tissue are lifted up to a new, higher position, and the skin that used to be above the nipple is now brought down, around and together to reshape and lift the breast. The procedure takes about 1-1/2 hours to perform.

For women who have only moderate sag, uplift can be achieved though a technique which confines the incision to the area around the areola (the dark, pink skin of the nipple) only. Dr. Bederman will advise you which procedure is most suitable for you during your consultation. Both of these procedures can be combined with a Breast Augmentation for those women who may benefit from both up-lift and augmentation.

After surgery to gauze dressing is carefully wrapped around the breasts and / or they may be placed in a surgical bra. Medication can control any minor pain or discomfort, which will subside in a few days. Swelling and bruising also generally subside in a few days. You may feel a temporary loss of sensation in your breasts and Nipples. This will improve with time.

You may be up and around a day or two after surgery. Within a week, the dressing is replaced with a soft bra, which you’ll wear for several weeks. The sutures come out within two weeks although most Dissolve on their own.

Although every effort is made to make Scars as inconspicuous as possible, they are permanent. For a year they may remain highly visible, then fade to some degree. Since they are around and below the nipple, Scars notice should not be even in low cut clothing or a bathing suit. They’ll fade with time and are easily Concealer by a normal Brassiere. Afterward, lifted your breasts should look younger, healthier and Rejuvenated.
