Big breasts can be a problem from both a physical and psychological standpoint. Large, oversize breasts dominate any woman’s appearance and make her look top heavy and obese. They can also become a physical burden, painful, distorting the posture, causing difficulty in breathing, backache and irritation at the creation of the breast, and make exercise difficult or impossible.

Psychologically they can also be a burden promoting star, rude comments, and the unwelcome attention. These are just a few of the reasons why women with oversize breasts often choose Breast Reduction.

This procedure can reduce and reshape large breasts by removing excess skin and underlying tissue. An oversize areola (the dark pink skin around the nipple) can be made smaller at the same time. Good candidates for this procedure are women with large, sagging breasts. If your breasts are sagging or not overly large, to Breast Lift may be all you need. While women of all ages can benefit, it’s usually never performed before the breasts are fully developed. The technique used by Dr. Bederman ensures the best possible continuity between the breast and the nipple thus increasing the possibility (but not Guaranteeing) that some woman may be able to breast feed after undergoing the procedure.

The Procedure

The surgeon makes incisions under the breast following the natural contour. Excess tissue, fat and skin are removed and then the nipple, areola and underlying tissue are moved to a new, higher location. When the breasts are extremely oversize, it’s sometimes necessary to completely detach the nipple before it is Relocated, however this is very uncommon. With the nipple in the new location, skin on both sides of the breast is moved down and around the areola and brought together. This firms up and shapes the breast. The incisions are closed and a gauze dressing or surgical bra is put on the patient. The procedure takes about 2 hours to perform.

For a few days after surgery, you’ll probably experience pain and discomfort which can be controlled with medication. You will be up and around in a day or two but will be painful motion. Bruising and swelling usually subsides in a couple of days. Within a week, your dressing is replaced by a soft bra which you’ll wear for several weeks.

You can usually return to work about 10 days after surgery although your breasts may become sore by day’s end. Scars will remain very visible for about a year and then will fade. Although every effort is made to make Scars as inconspicuous as possible, they will be extensive and permanent. But since they are made around and below the nipple, they should not be notice even in low cut clothing.
